Ilaria Lanzino was born in Pisa, Italy. After completing her studies in opera singing with excellent grades, she studied German Literature at the University of "Ca 'Foscari" in Venice and graduated with 1.0 cum laude. She gained her first theater experience as a choir singer at the Theater an der Wien and then as an intern and assistant director at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, the Theater Dortmund and the Aalto Theater in Essen. She worked with directors such as Christof Loy, Benedikt von Peter, Jens-Daniel Herzog, John Fulljames, Guy Joosten, David Bösch, Dietrich Hilsdorf, Elisabeth Stöppler and Michael Thalheimer. She made her directorial debut at the Dortmund Theater in 2017 with the children's opera "Wunderland" (Schreier), which was also performed at the Coburg State Theater. In 2019 she staged the children's opera “Rusalka, Mermaid” (based on Dvořák) at the Nuremberg State Theatre. Between 2017 and 2021 Ilaria Lanzino has been a permanent assistant director at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she also worked as a co-director for the “Ring des Nibelungen” in the production by Dietrich Hilsdorf. In the 2018/19 season she staged the children's opera “Gold!” for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, followed by Viktor Ullmann's “The Emperor of Atlantis” in 2019/20. The production was also shown on the international platform Operavision. At the Landestheater Coburg she staged the world premiere of the children's opera “The Princess on the Pumpkin” (Fister). In January 2020 Ilaria Lanzino was awarded 1st place in the prestigious EOP - International Opera Directing Prize for her directing concept for Stanislaw Moniuszko's opera "The haunted manor”. This production has been performed in the 2020/21 season at the Poznań Opera and will be performed in 2022 as part of the Wiesbaden International May Festival. In the 2020/2021 season she also staged de Falla's "Master Pedros Puppet Show" and the world premiere of Diana Syrse "The Kiosk" at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Thierry Tidrow's world premiere of "Kirsa's Music“ at the Dortmund Theater and „Pimpinone / Duke Bluebeard's Castle" at the State Theatre in Nuremberg. In the season 2021/2022 she will stage „The Elixir of Love“ by Donizetti at the State Theater in Nuremberg and „Falstaff“by Verdi at the Coburg State Theatre.
